Building Fire North of Bird Island

A fire north of Bird Island Monday night caused damage to the building and property inside the building.

At just after 8pm, the Renville County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a possible structure fire along the 38000 block of 870th Avenue, which is about 5 miles north of Bird Island in Kingman Township.  The property is owned by Bradley and Naomi Jansen.

The initial report indicated that there was smoke coming from the inside of a large shed, which contained several vehicles, fertilizer and fuel.

Once firefighters gained entry into the structure, they were able to establish that the fire was originating from a single vehicle inside. It appeared that the vehicle was attached to a battery charger, which is assumed to be the origin of the fire. The vehicle was a total loss. Another vehicle parked in the shed sustained minor fire damage. The shed and other equipment inside sustained smoke and water damage.
