Hutchinson Health President and CEO Announces Retirement

HUTCHINSON, Minn. — After 10 years leading Hutchinson Health, President and CEO Steven Mulder, MD, announced that he will retire effective April 2019.

Hutchinson Health Board of Directors and HealthPartners have begun the search for Dr. Mulder’s successor.

Dr. Mulder

Dr. Mulder first joined Hutchinson Health as a family physician in 1995. Prior to becoming President and CEO in 2009, he served as Emergency Department Medical Director, Chief Medical Officer, Director of Quality and Safety and Director of Clinical Services.

During his tenure as CEO, Hutchinson Area Health Care and Hutchinson Medical Center merged in 2013 to form Hutchinson Health.

As health care policy and payment reform have gained traction, Dr. Mulder supported a board process to identify and choose a system partner and in April of 2018 Hutchinson Health joined the HealthPartners family through a formal affiliation.

“Hutchinson Health is a strong organization today thanks to Dr. Mulder’s leadership, collaborative spirit and passionate drive to improve health,” said Andrea Walsh, HealthPartners President and CEO. “We wish him continued success in the next chapter of his life, and look forward to continuing to build on his work to position Hutchinson Health as a healthcare leader for the future.”

Dr. Mulder has been an integral part of not only the Hutchinson Health organization, but also in advancing health through the state of Minnesota. Over the years, he has received several awards for his dedication to patients and healthcare, including 2012 Minnesota Hospital Association (MHA) Patient Safety Leadership Award, 2013-2015 MHA Dedicated Leadership to Hospital Community, 2016 American Hospital Association Grassroots Champion, and 2018 MHA Spirit of Advocacy Award.

“I’m so privileged to have worked alongside such an incredible group of compassionate, caring and dedicated colleagues who focus on what matters most – helping our patients and the community live healthy lives,” said Dr. Mulder. “I will miss that day-to-day connection, and I believe that our best days are yet to come.”
