Tiger Gameday – Week 3
Last Game: Hutchinson 42 Willmar 28
Game Recap: The Tigers Offense was never stopped in putting up 42 points, all of them coming from the legs of Josiah Nelson who rushed for 309 yards and all 6 Scores. Defensively Hutch did just enough to stop the high flying Cardinals, including getting a game clinching Turnover on special teams.
Current Record: 2-0 (Ranked #6, 4A)
This Week’s Opponent: Big Lake (1-1)
About the Opponent: The Hornets have started the season up and down, and that is maybe expected with a brand new coaching staff and new offense. BL will feature a “Come Right at you” Offensive attack similar to that of Hutch’s…Run the Football, Control the game, get a few big plays, etc. The Hornets feature 3-star Recruit DeAndre Hill on Offense. Hill has shown the ability in the first two games to run and catch the ball equally well. WR and DB Trey Teige is also a player to watch and has game breaking ability on both sides of the ball.
Key Hutch Players: Defensive Line. Big Lake will try to run the ball quite a bit so stopping/slowing down that run will be key…as will taking up defenders to open up holes for the Tiger Linebackers to make plays. BUT, I’m putting them as the key players to highlight the fact The Tigers need to rush the QB better. They are getting pressures at times, but not finishing. Hutch has 1 QB Sack after 2 games. Get to the QB and let us “Fire up the Grill” in the booth (For the Culver’s Snack Pack Sack Attack).
- I cannot tell you how many times I’ve heard the phrase this week…”We’ve got to tackle better.” So that is going to be a big key. Big Lake has a lot of athletic players, well capable of taking things to the house. Last week Hutch had an issue reigning in athletic players. Play as a team, use your other defenders in a gang tackle if you need. Can’t keep giving teams and players extra YAC (Yards after Catch)
- The Biggest improvement we saw from Week 1 to Week 2 was in the Offensive Line. So much in fact we gave them real consideration for the Player of the Game award and not giving it to the kid who just ran for 300+. They improved greatly and now that spots seem to be locked down along the line, now is the time to get better, gel, and get more consistent. Always look to improve…last week was good….this week needs to be better.
- Hutch did a fantastic job of controlling the ball offensively last week and keeping the high powered Willmar Offense off the field. That I think will be the key to how far this team can go. Now this certainly isn’t going out on a limb, but a good offense can be a good defense. With as much success as you can have offensively, it puts pressure on the opposing team to be just as perfect.
- Quick Hit Keys…. Hutch will need to pass more, they didn’t have a pass attempt last week. That’s not going to work most weeks, have to keep defenses honest…Look for Big Lake to run a lot of I formation and Shotgun this year. Not much but the personnell is the same as last year’s game…Gonna be a bit warm temp wise. Keep Hydrated!
