Tiger Gameday – Week 7

Tiger Gameday – Week 7

Last Game: Hutchinson 49 Princeton 0

Game Recap: The Tiger Offense rolled again getting 100+ Yard games from Josiah Nelson and Tyler Schiller…plus 3 TD Passes from Lane Glaser. Defensively Hutch recorded 5 sacks and got multiple takeaways in one of their most complete games of the year.

Current Record: 6-0 (Ranked #3, 4A… QRF Ranking #2 4A)

This Week’s Opponent: Rocori (1-5)

About the Opponent: It’s been a completely different year for Rocori. Last year they were the team that knocked Hutch out of the District Title, claiming it for themselves…AND qualified for the State Tournament. This year they have struggeld to score points and finish drives off. Defensively they are still above average as teams have had trouble scoring on them.

Key Hutch Players: DL and LB. Rocori’s offense can give team fits because they run a lot of RPO. It’s the same system that colleges and some NFL teams use…the Run Pass Option. It relys on the QB making the right decision and keeping the defense guessing a bit. It forces you to play assignment defense, and it’s VERY hard to get good Pressure on the QB. If your Hutch recognize the ball carrier quickly, swarm to the ball, and tackle. Or another good way to deal with this is….

4 Downs/Storylines:

First Down: …Getting Turnovers. Hutch has done a MUCH better job of this recently. Rocori is the first run heavy team Hutch will see in a while. That makes forcing fumbles a key. And while the weather is supposed to be considerably better for Friday…there’s not a chance all this rain from this week will be dry. That field will be a quagmire. So holding onto the ball can be more difficult on a soggy field.

Second Down: We’ve said this a few times this year. Hutch’s best defense is a good offense. The Tiger’s running attack hasn’t been stopped all year. If you can keep that rolling this week it puts more pressure on Rocori to keep scoring. And scoring has been an issue for the Spartans all year. The Spartan defense has been good at slowing teams down and keeping them off the scoreboard. But again, Rocori hasn’t seen a Run Game like the Tigers.

Third Down: While our “Hutch Hammer” Josiah Nelson might be the best RB in the District, Rocori’s Matt Koshiol is clearly the second best. He’ll be the best RB the Tiger Defense has seen so far this year. He’s in the mold of Hammer with a good North-South Game. Containing him is a BIG key to shutting down the Spartans.

4th Down, Quick Hit Keys: We’d like to congratulate all 8 of the Honorees Friday that will be inducted into Hutch’s Wall of Fame Friday night: Bill Arndt, Fan – Beth Shimanski, Swimming State Champion – Heidi Rostberg Carlson, Girls BB and Tennis standout – Paul Lenz, Football/Track/Hockey standout – Len Lasley, Track Coach – Bruce Rosenow, Baseball/Wrestling/Football Coach – Harry Spannaus, Outstanding Graduate (Col in Air Force, flew 222 combat missions) – Les Kouba, Fine Arts
