(KWLM)  A St. Cloud man who was huffing computer dust cleaner to get high before killing two people in a crash was sentenced Thursday to 8 years in prison.

28-year-old Charlie Barnett pleaded guilty to two counts of Criminal Vehicular Homicide in October after the car he was driving crossed the centerline of Division Street in Waite Park July 9th and crashed into a classic car, killing  61-year-old Richard Tomlinson of Grantsburg Wisconsin and 77-year-old Roger Nelson of Clearwater.

Nelson owned the 1969 El Camino SS and Tomlinson was test driving it when Barnett hit them head-on.

Investigators say a can of the aerosol dust cleaner, which he had recently purchased at Best Buy, was found in Barnett’s car.   Barnett has a history of inhaling the product to get high.

At Thursday’s sentencing Barnett was given 48 months in prison on each of the counts, to be served consecutively.   He was given credit for 191 days he has spent in jail since the crash.
