Hutchinson Fire Department 2018 Report: 12 Lives Saved, Up from Previous Year

Hutchinson Fire Chief Mike Schumann gave the City Council his 2018 Year End Report last night (Tuesday).

Schumann says over 3.9-million-dollars in property value was saved and more importantly, 12 lives were saved.  That’s double from the previous year.  Schumann says 5 to 10 lives saved annually is about normal.

Chief Schumann also told the council that residents of the Village Ranch have volunteered their services to clear snow from the city’s hydrants, but Schumann said with over 925 hydrants in the city, he is still asking residents to help out and clear hydrants in front of their homes and businesses to help save time in the event of a fire.
