Two people are without place to live after a fire Thursday afternoon in Watkins.

At just before 5pm, the Meeker County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a house fire in the 100 block of Meeker Avenue South in Watkins.

Meeker County Deputies, Watkins Fire and Rescue, and Eden Valley Fire Department all responded to the scene.

Authorities say there were two people in the house when the fire started who were able to get out without injury. However, 29-year-old Rusty Staten, who is the renter, said two family dogs were lost in the fire.

The house is a total loss.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this time and the MN Fire Marshal was called in to investigate.
