Willmar Police Officer Shaken Up When Squad is Hit by Stolen SUV


(KWLM/Willmar MN-) A Willmar Police Officer suffered minor injuries in a crash involving a stolen SUV early Saturday morning.

KWLM reports that just before 3 a.m., the officer located a Dodge Journey that had been reported stolen in Renville County in the area of Trott Avenue and 2nd Street Southeast. The driver refused to stop, and evenutally ended up in a snow bank in the 900 Block of Minnesota Avenue Southeast.

The suspect, 26-year-old Edgar Montoya of Renville backed his vehicle into a Willmar Police squad car, causing minor damage and slightly injuring the driver. Montoya was later arrested on several charges including fleeing in a motor vehicle, receiving stolen property, reckless driving, driving after revocation, and child endangerment because there were two children in the vehicle at the time. They were not injured.

Other charges against Montoya are pending.
