Willmar Man Gets Life in Prison for October Stabbing

(KWLM/Willmar MN) A Willmar man has been sentenced to life in prison without the chance of parole.

Last month, 35-year-old Caleb Blue pleaded guilty to 1st Degree Premeditated Murder.

On Thursday, Judge Melissa Listug gave 35-year-old Caleb Blue the mandatory life term.

Blue had admitted stabbing 24-year-old David Medellin to death on October 25th. Medellin’s body was found in a field just east of Willmar on Halloween day. Blue said he stabbed Medellin after the two argued about Blue wanting to assault another acquaintance of the two, Joe Vallejo.

Last month, Blue said he would agree to plead guilty if the state dropped charges against his girlfriend Lori Gafkjen of Brooten, who was charged with helping Blue escape justice. Those charges have been dropped.
