(Learfield News Service)  The Red Cross is facing a critical shortage of type “O” blood. Spokeswoman Sue Thesenga says it’s such an important blood type because O-positive is the most common blood type and therefore transfused the most. And O-negative is the universal blood type and can be used in emergency rooms when it’s most critical.

Thesenga says if blood supplies run low, what could happen is a doctor or surgeon could postpone surgery and we’re trying to do everything right now so that doesn’t happen.

Thesenga says everyone who donates blood or platelets now through June 10th will receive a five-dollar Amazon gift card via email.
