Cougar Sighting Confirmed in Dodge Center, MN


(KSTP/Dodge Center, MN)  The Dodge County Sheriff’s Department says it has confirmed a cougar sighting near Dodge Center.

According to a social media post, the sheriff’s office received a report of a cougar sighting in the backyard of residence north of Highway Street.

KSTP reports deputies later searched the area and were able to locate the cougar. The department said it has notified the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources about the sighting.

The sheriff’s office urges residents to be extra vigilant and use caution when using parks and trails in the area.

The DNR says an encounter with cougars is extremely rare. If you encounter a cougar, the DNR recommends making yourself appear larger, waving a hat or a jacket, talking loud and firmly or throwing rocks and sticks at the animal.

Anyone who sees the cougar is also asked to call 911 immediately.
