(Learfield News Service/Arlington, MN) The remains of an Arlington, Minnesota service member recovered from an aircraft lost 66 years ago are returning home today (Thursday).
Airman 2nd Class Verne Budahn’s plane crashed on November 22nd, 1952 en route from Washington to an Air Force base in Alaska. There were 11 crewman and 41 passengers on board.
Search parties were unable to locate and recover any of the service members.
The wreckage and remains were discovered by a Blackhawk helicopter crew in June 2012.
Budahn’s remains will be flown to MSP International Airport today, with a funeral service scheduled for Saturday in Arlington, Minnesota.
