State Sen. Scott Jensen (R-Chaska) announced Sunday morning, on his Facebook site, that he won’t seek re-election next year to District 47, which includes most of Carver County.
The Chaska Herald reports Jensen wasn’t afraid to address topics that were a hard sell with the GOP — such as expanding background checks on guns or legalizing recreational use of marijuana — even if he ultimately didn’t vote in favor of the measures.
During his last legislative session, Jensen said he’d like to push forward on Highway 212 funding, to improve the road west of Carver.
Jensen told the newspaper a factor in his decision to step down was to spend more time with his family. He noted that his wife recently had two major surgeries and a bout with pneumonia.
Jensen is one of four physicians in the Minnesota Legislature, and founder and president of Catalyst, an independent practice with clinics in Chaska and Watertown and says he doesn’t plan to slow down.
