(Paynesville, MN) Authorities in central Minnesota have arrested a family member after a 22-year-old woman died in a mobile home fire.
Paynesville police were called to the fire just before 7 p.m. Tuesday. Police say a man was pouring gasoline inside the mobile home and started it on fire.
The Stearns County Sheriff’s Office says the home was engulfed in flames when officers arrived. The woman, identified as Jamey Newport of Paynesville, was found inside the bathroom. Despite life-saving measures, she was pronounced dead at a Paynesville hospital.
A man was arrested at the scene. After being treated at a hospital, he was taken to Stearns County Jail. He’s identified as 46-year-old John Sean Newport, the victim’s father. He was arrested and was being held on charges of second-degree murder.
An autopsy determined the woman died of smoke inhalation. Her death was ruled a homicide.
