(Learfield News Service) As the kids head back to school, bus safety is at the top of mind for parents and law enforcement officials.

State Patrol Lieutenant Brian Rue is reminding drivers to get prepared to start seeing school buses, when they’re out they could potentially throw on their yellow lights warning motorists that they’re about to stop and pick up kids at any point, so especially when you’re in a residential neighborhood just kind of be ready to respond appropriately to a school bus displaying its flashing lights and stop arm.

Motorists are required to stop at least 20 feet from a school bus displaying red flashing lights or a stop arm.

Rue says stop arm violations can result in up to 500-dollar fine.
