(Learfield News Service/Elk River, MN) — A Clear Lake man has avoided a jury trial by pleading guilty to a crash last August that left a teen from Dassel dead.

Sherburne County prosecutors say 38-year-old Jason Rothmeyer had a blood-alcohol level nearly three times the legal limit when he struck a pickup carrying 18-year-old Kyle Foley.

Rothmeyer was leading deputies on a high-speed chase and nearly hit a squad car before crashing into the truck.

Foley died the next day in the hospital and two others in the pickup were hurt. Rothmeyer will be sentenced December 12th for fleeing police resulting in death and two counts of criminal operation.
