Sun Obstructs Driver’s Vision Leading to Crash

A Cold Spring man said the sun was obstructing his vision leading to a rear-end crash just north of Cold Spring Sunday evening that left two people from Paynesville injured.

The Sheriff’s Office says 17-year-old Kjersten Campbell of Paynesville was driving an SUV eastbound on County Road 2 attempting to make a left-hand turn onto Island Lake road. 38-year-old Jesse Kern was also traveling eastbound in his SUV when he hit the rear of the Campbell vehicle at about 50 miles an hour. Kern said he did not see any brake lights or turns signals due to the sun obstructing his vision.

Two passengers in the Campbell vehicle, 53-year-old Jacqueline Campell and 15-year-old Claire Campbell, both of Paynesville, were taken to St. Cloud Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. No other injuries were reported.

The crash happened just after 5:30pm.
