(KWLM/Paynesville MN-) A 76-year-old Paynesville man survived an explosion that destroyed his home Tuesday morning. Paynesville Police Chief Paul Wegner says at 8:43 a.m. they received a report of an explosion at a residence in the 500 block of Morningside Ave. When an officer got there they saw the living quarters of the home had collapsed and a small fire was visible on the southside of the home. The homeowner, Dennis Pederson, who was home and inside the house at the time, was able to crawl out of the debris with only minor injuries. Pederson was treated and released at the scene and Red Cross was being contacted to assist with housing arrangements.
The Paynesville Fire Department arrived on the scene and put out the fire which had also caused minor damage to a neighboring home. The State Fire Marshall’s Office was called in to investigate the explosion. The case remains under investigation by the State Fire Marshalls Office and the Minnesota Office of Pipeline Safety and the cause is currently under investigation.
