With wet, warm weather this fall, city officials in Hutchinson say there is a lot of grass in the rows that are being put in the streets for the annual leaf vacuum pickup.
In some cases, they say the rows in front of some houses have been made up primarily of grass, which vacuums much harder than leaves and can create undue wear on the vacuum’s intake.
Officials suggest that if you use a mower to collect leaves, simply raise the deck of your mower so you collect primarily leaves instead of grass.
City operators will be instructed to leave rows that are primarily made of up mowed grass. Property owners with rows primarily made up of mowed grass will be responsible for cleaning up the row.
If the rows remain, the City will be cleaning them up and may charge property owners for that service.
