Tiger Gameday – Section Finals
Last Game: Hutchinson 60 Mankato East 14
Game Recap: Hutchinson got big play after big play in a huge win in the Section Semi Finals. The Tigers rushed for over 550 yards in the game. Plus, Hutch had 8 plays of over 50 yards in the game…including a 99 yard Interception returned for a Touchdown by Sam Rensch.
Current Record: 9-0 (#1 4A, Ranked #1 in QRF)
This Week’s Opponent: Marshall 9-0, (#8 4A, Ranked #6 in QRF)
About the Opponent: All Season long Hutchinson and Marshall have been the clear top two teams in the section and it’s only fitting they continue their rivalry in this game. Marshall can score some points! Marshall averages around 46 points per game…led by WR Bryce Lance and RB Gabe Raini. Defensively Marshall is stout, giving up only 7 points per game…and a defense that has allowed only 1 team to rush for more than one hundred yards.
Key Hutch Players: RB’s and FB’s. This my friends is the main event…think Ali vs Frazier…or if your like me and a fan of Pro Wrestling…Think The Rock vs Stone Cold Steve Austin. You have Hutchinson who features one of the best running games in the state…taking on Marshall who features one of the best run defenses in the state. It’s a matchup of epic proportions. What I know is Hutch won’t change their game plan too much. You might see a tad more passing tonight…BUT…you’re gonna see what John and I mention most nights. Execution. Which team will execute when they KNOW what the other team is trying to do. Will Hutch leave Marshall with a Stone Cold Stunner? Or can Marshall leave Hutch on the Rock Bottom?
First Down: Finish your drives. I’ll continue on the Hutch offensive side here. This game more than others will rely on teams finishing drives and getting into the endzone. Points are at a premium. Both teams know how to score so this game isn’t over until zeros show on the clock. No matter the score.
Second Down: Keep alert where WR Bryce Lance is at all times. The teams that have moved the ball at all on Hutch this year have done so in the air. That doesn’t mean the Tiger DB’s are weak…but they could use some help tonight. Lance might be the best WR they see all year. Expect a lot of double teams and whichever Corner matches up on him should have saftety help. That being said dont’ forget about the Marshall TE…he’s sneaky good as well.
Third Down: Stop the Run. Any offense isn’t as good if you can take away something from them. Hutch has been very good at taking away the Run and making teams beat them with the pass. Those teams aren’t near the level Marshall is at so this will be a tougher thing to do.
4th Down, Quick Hit Keys: Should be a cold night, slight chance for precipitation. That’s a little tougher to deal with off of the turf in Marshall. The Hutch field could be slick Friday night….Hutch has qualified for 22 State Tournaments, the last coming in 2014. Marshall has qualified for 4 State Tournaments including 3 in a row from 2015-2017
