Hutchinson Man Facing Drug Charges After House Fire

A Hutchinson man is facing felony drug charges after a house fire at his residence Tuesday morning.

Authorities say 30-year-old Robert Lee Bloch has been charged with one count each of 5th-degree controlled substance possession, and methamphetamine crimes in the presence of children.

At 6:41am Tuesday, fire crews responded to the report of a fire at the home in the 700 Block of California Street Northwest. On arrival, an adult female was standing outside the residence. Authorities say Bloch was in the garage and appeared to be under the influence of a controlled substance.

Police say the fire department reported they located drug paraphernalia as they were putting out the fire.

Police obtained a search warrant and subsequently found methamphetamine and paraphernalia in the house.

When Bloch was arrested, police also found he had methamphetamine and paraphernalia in his possession.

Authorities say the fire is believed to have started in the basement, but the exact cause is still under investigation. No injuries were reported and an estimate of damage was not available.
