The city of Hutchinson held their “Truth in Taxation Hearing” last night (Thursday).
The required public hearing is to inform residents on the proposed budget and tax levy, in this case for 2020.
An explanation of revenues and expenditures is also offered.
City Administrator Matt Jaunich explained that the proposed levy increase for the city portion is 2 percent, however, the total levy increase also includes Hutchinson Economic Development Authority and Hutchinson Housing Redevelopment Authority increases, which puts the increase at 2.1 percent for a total of $7.45-milllion.
Jaunich says that 2.1 percent increase on a $166,000 home equates to an increase of about $38.
The city council will adopt the final budget and levy later this month.
