(KNUJ/New Ulm, MN) On Wednesday morning, the New Ulm Police Department notified New Ulm High School about a threat report from the FBI.
The FBI received a report on their website about a threat to the High School.
In an email to parents, Superintendent Jeff Bertrang said police investigated the report and found that a high school student did make threats about shooting and bombing at the school through a social media/chat site.
The student who made the threats sent the message to approximately 17 other students.
The School doesn’t know who received the threats, nor who reported it to the FBI website.
Bertrang said they are thankful for the person who did notify law enforcement.
Law Enforcement confirmed that the student did not have access to the materials.
The student has been removed from school and no additional students were identified as a part of the threat.
The New Ulm Police Department reports that a criminal investigation is currently being conducted as search warrants are being applied for to obtain further social media data.
The FBI, New Ulm Police, New Ulm High School Administration and the Brown County Attorney’s Office are all working together in this matter.
