A Hutchinson man has been charged after a Hutchinson Patrol Officer attempted a traffic stop on the speeding driver early Saturday morning, but the driver didn’t stop.
At just after 1:30am, a Patrol Officer witnessed a pickup traveling 60 miles an hour in the 40 mile an hour zone of Highway 7 and then 60 miles an hour on School Road, which has a 30 mile an hour posted speed limit.
When the officer attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver took off. In the course of the chase, the officer said the suspect made 21 turns, went through 5 stop signs, and hit curbs 4 times. After about 4 ½ miles, the officer stopped the chase for safety reasons.
Later that morning, just before 7, the vehicle and suspect were located by a McLeod County Sheriff’s Deputy in Biscay.
Twenty-six-year-old Joseph Troy Thoennes was arrested, taken to the McLeod County Jail, and was charged with one felony count of fleeing a peace officer in a motor vehicle.
