MN Lawmakers Could Return to Capitol to Pass COVID Response Bill

(Learfield News Service/St. Paul, MN)  Legislative leaders are thinking about briefly calling lawmakers back to the State Capitol from their extended recess which was prompted by the coronavirus pandemic.

“A Thursday possible session where we can vote on a package of responses to COVID-19,” says Democratic Representative Jennifer Schultz from Duluth.

Republican Senator Scott Jensen from Chaska says, “Governor Walz has asked for additional funding to help deal with the COVID crisis, and I think that that should be our highest priority.”

Walz has requested over 300 million dollars and lawmakers have been working remotely to assemble a package.

House Speaker Melissa Hortman says to call floor sessions Thursday there must be agreement by all four caucuses — and she says any legislation must give Minnesotans relief beyond what the governor can do through executive order.
