This week has been designated Severe Weather Awareness Week in Minnesota (April 13-17).
Officials say it’s important to prepare every year for severe weather and it is especially true during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Now is the time to plan on how to shelter from storms with maintaining as much social distancing as possible.
Because we need to be prepared for severe weather, officials say tornado drill day on Thursday April 16th will still take place.
Homeland Security and Emergency Management Director Joe Kelly says as part of the Governor’s news conference on April 3rd, he stated “as of now, we’re planning to conduct the tornado drill that’s scheduled on Thursday, April 16, but we’ll evaluate the wisdom and appropriateness of that as we get closer to the day.”
