(Learfield News Service/St. Paul, MN) Governor Tim Walz signed an insulin assistance bill into law Wednesday, with advocates and lawmakers joining him on-line on a ZOOM call.
Twenty-year-old Alexis Stanley was diagnosed with diabetes about two years ago and said, “I just want to say, thank you, because I can’t even put into words how grateful and happy I am to see this cross the finish line.”
Republican Senator Scott Jensen from Chaska helped overcome a nearly year-long deadlock at the legislature saying, “What we’ve seen here is how Minnesotans can work towards pushing politicians past gridlock, past partisanship.”
Manufacturers will have to provide free insulin to patients in urgent need, plus maintain an ongoing assistance program for qualifying people — or face multi-million-dollar fines.
