(Learfield News Service/Minneapolis, MN) A memorial service for George Floyd is scheduled in Minneapolis this afternoon (Thursday).

The family service is set for one o’clock at North Central University in Minneapolis. It’s being organized by the National Action Network, a civil rights group founded by Al Sharpton–who is scheduled to deliver a eulogy.

Floyd’s funeral will be held next Tuesday in Houston, Texas–where Floyd spent part of his life.

Floyd died last week while being arrested in Minneapolis.

In a viral video, former officer Derek Chauvin is seen kneeling on Floyd’s neck for nearly nine minutes. George Floyd was 46-years-old.

All four officers involved in Floyd’s death have now been charged. Derek Chauvin is now facing upgraded second and third degree murder – along with manslaughter charges. The other three officers are being charged with aiding and abetting.

And the killing prompted the state Human Services Department to launch a civil rights investigation into the Minneapolis police department.
