At 9pm Thursday evening, the Meeker County Sheriff’s Office received information about a driving complaint.

Authorities say the vehicle was eastbound in Kandiyohi County on US Highway 12 at the time and was reportedly driving at a high rate of speed, driving in and out of the ditch, and driving without headlights on.

A Kandiyohi Deputy located the vehicle just into Meeker County and initiated a traffic stop, however, the driver failed to stop and the pursuit ensued.

Meeker County Deputies joined the pursuit.

The driver drove into a ditch and field west of US Highway 12 and Meeker CSAH 31. The driver and a passenger fled on foot but both were apprehended without further incident.

The driver was identified as a 27-year-old Benson man. The passenger was identified as a 30-year-old, no address given.

The driver was arrested for fleeing a peace officer, driving under the influence, and criminal damage to property.

The passenger was arrested for fleeing a peace officer on foot and obstructing legal process.

Both were booked in to the Meeker County jail pending a court appearance.

Authorities say the pursuit lasted approximately 7 miles and reached speeds in excess of 90 miles per hour.

A third passenger in the vehicle was not charged.
