Tiger Gameday – Week 1

Last Game: FIRST GAME OF THE SESASON!

Game Recap: A fantastic 2019 season came to an end one week earlier than everyone wanted, falling in the State Semi Finals 22-16 to SMB. Hutch finished the season 11-1.

Current Record: 0-0

This Week’s Opponent: St Cloud Tech (Last year was 5-4, fell in the Section Quarterfinals to Monticello)

About the Opponent: Tech graduated A LOT from last years team, reportedly around 20 or so Starters graduated. That doesn’t mean the cupboard is bare for this Class 5A perennial power. OL John Kaczor is considered one of the top 5 OL in the state in his class (Junior, Graduating Class of ’22). Defensively Tech brings back a couple LB’ers that saw time last year in Isaak Sipple (38 tackles) and Lincoln Benson (37 tackles, 1 INT).

Key Hutch Players: Tiger returning Seniors. I don’t have to tell you how unique and weird this season already has been and we haven’t even played a down yet. With all the outside factors going on, it can be a good thing that this Hutch team has so many returning players from a team that went deep into the playoffs. Guys like Jordan Titus, Tristan Hoppe, Ty Glaser, Matt Olberg, and others that can help lead on and off the field. Especially since your playing a team tonight that has next to no returning starters…having experience can be a factor tonight.

4 Downs/Storylines:

First Down: Defenisve Preview: The Hutch Defense has so many returning players this could be a real strength of this year. Hutch brings back All of their DB’s, One of the top LB’ers in the District in Tristan Hoppe, and a D1 Recruit of DT in Jordan Titus. Hard hitting Physical Defense has been a trademark of Hutch and this year looks no different.

Second Down: Offensive Preview: There are less returning players on this side of the ball. OL’s Matt Olbert and Simon Broersma bring continuity to a position that requires execution. Colin Nagel will be the QB of this team…he saw some last year as a backup, but played a bit as TE. Having played some minutes in big games already will help the transition. Early in the season (and maybe all season) look for Hutch to run some RB’s and FB’s by committee. Look for Ty Glaser, Mitchell Piehl, Nolan Prokosch, and others to see some time running the rock.

Third Down: First Game Mistakes. I think every year on the first game of the season I mention something to this effect. And every year it’s true. First game of the year you always see some of those little mistakes you won’t see at the end of the year. Which team can play a clean game? Keep the ball, No turnovers, no pentalties, first game jitters, etc.

Fourth Down: Gonna be warm for an October night, manage your water, cramps, etc. Have to deal with the “heat”…New turf at Tech, new facilities…The Return of Phelps! Ryan Phelps and AFTER THE GAME returns on KARP Friday night. It’s been popular postgame highlight show for a number of years and it’s back. It’ll air after FB on FM 106.9 from 9:30-11pm.
