Tiger Gameday – Week 5
Last Game: Willmar 28 Hutchinson 24
Game Recap: A good first half gave way to a lackluster second half as Willmar came from behind to beat Hutch 28-24. Hutch led 24-14 at the half but then was shut out in the second half. Hutch had opportunities, including a 4th and 1 inside the redzone late in the game but couldn’t convert.
Current Record: 3-1
This Week’s Opponent: Becker (2-1)
About the Opponent: the bulldogs have played one less game this season thanks to a COVID Cancellation. Becker has a stout defense that makes it hard to gain yards on them. They’ve allowed only 27 points all season long. Sophomore QB Ryan Bengtson leads the offense in more of a run oriented attack this year.
Key Hutch Players: Hutch Offensive Backs. As mentioned above Becker has a great defense. Especially their Linebackers and DB’s from what we hear. Everyone knows the Hutch offense is predicated on the run, if the OL does their job and blocks the front…then the Hutch backs will have to make someone miss. Points and yards are going to be at a premium in this game.
First Down: Next man up. Hutch has a few players out for this game, that means everyone else needs to step up. Who can be that unsung hero. It gives more opportunities for others to step into the limelight. Do your job, do what you’ve practiced and play your game.
Second Down: Forget about last week…to a point. You want to correct the second half mistakes, the fumbles, the inability to get yards. So in that sense you need to remember last week a bit. BUT…you have to move on. Get back to your game and what you do well. Let last week stay in the past and don’t let it affect you going into tonight.
Third Down: Contain the Becker Run. Becker has some good athletes and a big RB they’ll hand the ball off to. If you can contain the Bulldog run, it’ll force them to pass. Like Hutch, Passing is not their forte this year. Oh they can pass just fine but it’s not their strength. Plus the Hutch DB’s are a strength. I’d rather take my shot vs Becker by forcing them to pass…but admittedly, you’re probably choosing between a rock and a hard place.
4th Down/Quick Hit Keys: Turnovers! Turnovers killed any chance of winning last week. Make sure you hang onto the ball…Finish Drives. Gonna be a defensive game tonight so if you get an opportunity to score make sure you do it! … Enjoy this rivalry! I think it’s one of the best in Class 4A. Two teams with storied history battling on a Friday night. Can’t get much better!!
